 The ADP2230ACPZ is a dual-channel, 2 MHZ, 800 mA, synchronous low quiescent current step-down regulator launched by (ADI). The following are its core features:

Overview

The ADP2230ACPZ is an integrated device featuring two high-efficiency, low static current, 800 mA, step-down DC-DC converters, available in a compact 10-pin 3 mm × 3 mm LFCSP package. The entire solution only requires five small external components. When the ADP2230ACPZ uses three 0603 capacitors and two 2mm × 2mm inductors, the total area of the solution is approximately 48mm ², making it the smallest size solution to meet the requirements of various portable applications.

 

The ADP2230ACPZ step-down regulator adopts a proprietary high-speed current mode and constant-frequency PWM control scheme, featuring outstanding stability and transient response. To reduce the input current ripple, the step-down output operates in a phase-out mode. To ensure the longest battery life for portable applications, the ADP2230ACPZ offers a variable frequency power-saving mode that can reduce the switching frequency under low load conditions.

 

During the turn-off period of logic control, the input and output are disconnected, and the current drawn from the input source is less than 0.1 μA. The ADP2230ACPZ operates with an input voltage ranging from 2.3V to 6.5V, allowing it to be powered by multiple alkaline batteries, NiMH batteries, lithium batteries or other standard power sources.

 

The ADP2230ACPZ offers multiple options to set the operating frequency. To achieve maximum efficiency under light load, the ADP2230ACPZ can operate at a lower switching frequency in PSM mode and automatically switch to PWM mode as the load increases. When noise is more important than efficiency, the ADP2230 can be forced to operate in PWM mode only (2 MHz). The ADP2230ACPZ can also be synchronized with an external clock ranging from 1.5 MHz to 2.5 MHz via the SYNC pin. When using external clock synchronization control, the two step-down outputs are in phase with the applied clock signal.

 

The ADP2230ACPZ is equipped with built-in power switches, synchronous rectifiers and compensation components, which can significantly reduce the number of external devices and improve efficiency. Other important protection features include: under-voltage lockout, which is used to prevent deep battery discharge; Internal soft start is used to prevent input current overshoot during startup. It also features an integrated and switch-resistance type QOD function for automatic discharge of the output when the device is disabled. Short-circuit protection and thermal overload protection circuits can prevent devices from being damaged under adverse conditions.
